Bowling Tip of the Month

CREATE A "THINK CIRCLE"

One of the keys to consistent scoring is the development of a pre-shot routine and creation of a "Think Circle."  The pre-shot routine follows the "Think Circle" and allows the bowler (you) to prepare for and execute your next delivery in the way you want -- a dead flush, making a spare, or picking up a split.

The first action is the "Think Circle." What is it?  It is a few minutes before your delivery where you analyze your last shot and ask yourself am I playing the right line and using the right bowling ball? You think: do I need to alter my stance, e.g., move up or back, right or left? Does the ball feel right in my hand, i.e., add or take out tape? Should I change the delivery of my ball, e.g., speed, wrist position?

From the "Think Circle" you move into the pre-shot routine. Pick up and wipe off your bowling ball.  It doesn't matter whether it is clean, dirty, whatever, pick up the ball and wipe it off.  This gives you a few seconds of reflective time.  Next, line up your left (for right handers) or right (for left handers) foot on the proper board on the approach that is consistent with the dot or arrow on the lane. Then, go through your "Think Circle" thoughts, take a breath, and make your delivery.

The pre-shot and "Think Circle" routines really work.  They are not complicated, apply to any level of bowler, and will help, beyond question, the bowlers control of his or her emotions, and allow the bowler to deliver the ball in a calm, reassuring, and competent manner.  The routines will help every bowler improve his or her average.
